Product Description
Hand-Engraved • 100% Natural Pigments • Ordered-to-Make Narrative Artwork
A tall Palm-Leaf Pattachitra unfolds the sacred world of Vishnu through a richly layered narrative composition, combining a prominent central divine image with Palm-Leaf strips turn the surface into something closer to a visual.
At approximately 40 × 9 inches, the artwork is designed to be read vertically. Figures, incarnations and narrative scenes accumulate across joined palm leaves, turning the surface into something closer to an illustrated manuscript than a conventional single-scene painting.
Handcrafted in Balipatna, Khordha, Odisha, this ordered-to-make artwork uses traditional palm-leaf engraving and 100% natural pigments and requires approximately 30 days of preparation.
Available framed or unframed.
The Story
The Story
Many forms. One continuing sacred world.
Vishnu’s sacred imagery is rarely limited to one form.
Across Indian storytelling, the divine appears through different incarnations, encounters and moments—each answering a different world and circumstance.
This Palm-Leaf Pattachitra uses that multiplicity as its visual structure.
A central Vishnu-centred composition anchors the artwork while surrounding panels and medallions extend the narrative through additional figures and sacred scenes.
Rather than reducing the work to one icon, the surface allows the story to accumulate:
image → episode → another form → another story
That is one of palm leaf’s distinctive strengths.
Joined leaves create enough visual space for a narrative to unfold rather than remain frozen inside a single frame.
For Indie Kaarigari, the material journey becomes:
palm leaf → engraved line → natural pigment → sacred image → sequence → Vishnu Katha
A living storytelling surface, carried into a contemporary home.

Material
Material
Prepared natural palm leaves are carefully joined to create the artwork's surface. Using a traditional pointed iron stylus (Lekhani), the kaarigar engraves fine lines and intricate details directly into the leaf.
100% natural pigments are then applied by hand, bringing warmth and depth to the composition while preserving the visible texture and character of the palm leaf.
