A tree filled with continuity

Tree of Life 04 carries growth through repetition.

Branch leads into branch. Leaves gather closely around them. The tree rises from a single trunk until almost the entire inner field becomes alive with movement.

The composition can be read through ideas of:

growth • rootedness • renewal • continuity

What gives the piece its distinctive character is the relationship between the drawing and its surface.

The tree is first defined through engraved linework on prepared palm leaf, after which natural pigments bring contrast and depth without hiding the hand-worked structure beneath.

The result is not simply a painted tree.

It is a tree carried through leaf, line and pigment.
