An epic unfolding down the leaf

Palm leaf has long carried more than isolated images.

It has carried stories in sequence.

This Ramayana scroll uses that narrative capacity directly.

A large upper scene establishes the sacred world, while the circular panels below guide the eye through different episodes and figures from the epic.

Rather than compressing the Ramayana into one symbolic image, the artwork allows the story to unfold vertically:

scene → scene → scene

The format recalls the manuscript origins of palm-leaf art, where story, image and sequence could exist together across joined leaves. Ramayana narratives are historically documented in Odisha’s palm-leaf manuscript and painting traditions. Odisha Magazines

For Indie Kaarigari, this is where palm leaf becomes more than a surface.
